She was one of the first DEAs and GDAs to qualify, working as a self-employed DEA providing Energy Performance Certificates since 2007 and providing Green Deal advice since 2013, mainly in Gloucestershire. Prior to becoming self-employed she gained a wealth of experience in energy efficiency and housing regeneration with local authorities, surveying houses and developing and managing projects. She believes that minimising our use of energy, especially fossil fuels is important, to save resources and to reduce carbon emissions and the risks of climate change.
As well as providing domestic Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for home owners, estate agents and landlords, she also provides a professional but more informal energy advice service for householders wanting to make energy saving improvements or suffering from cold homes or high energy bills.
As a freelance consultant she can and does advise local agencies and community groups on funding, developing and running energy projects.
Although the Green Deal is no longer available, the experience and expertise gained as an advisor has enabled her to continue to provide useful advice for householders. Her links with community energy projects have enabled her to identify clients who need advice, whether to save money on their energy bills, because they want to make improvements to their property, or because they want to reduce their carbon footprint.
These links also enable her to provide appropriate signposting to other local services or contractors, thus providing an added value service for her clients.
